Commissioners & Cans Food Drive 2024

August 4, 2024

Across the Commonwealth, the various Commissioners of the Revenue offices are taking on the fight against food insecurity through the month of August.

Now in its sixth year, the Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive is a month-long competition among Virginia’s Commissioners of Revenue offices to join together to raise food and funds for their local food banks throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Offices compete to collect the most food/funds during a time of the year when resources are in short supply and the need remains great.

“We are honored to participate yet again in such a worthwhile cause,“ said Todd Divers, Charlottesville Commissioner of the Revenue.

Drop Off Locations:

  • Treasurer’s Lobby – First Floor of City Hall Outside the Commissioner of the Revenue’s Window
  • First Floor of City Hall Hallway Outside Council Chambers – Second Floor of City Hall

Online Giving: Every $1 donated helps provide enough food for 4 meals!

Shop Local Year Round

December 21, 2020

Buy Local!

Charlottesville’s small business community has been extremely hard hit by the coronavirus. We’ve lost quite a few beloved local businesses this year: Bashir’s, Boutique Boutique, The Bluegrass Grill, Prime 109, Fellini’s, etc.

But small business owners have also done a remarkable job of adapting to difficult circumstances. The Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville (DBAC) has come up with a great idea for promoting the businesses on the Downtown Mall: a gift card that can be used at any participating shop on the Downtown Mall. You can buy the DBAC gift card here (available in electronic or physical format). [Read more…]
