Take the Tree Survey by May 24

May 7, 2026

Have opinions about the City’s green spaces and how best to manage and protect them? Of course you do, so please take the brief Urban Community Forest Survey to share your thoughts, hopes, and advice for City planners. This is an important opportunity to weigh in on the future of our urban forest. Please complete the survey before 11:59pm on May 24.

** And after you submit your response, PLEASE scold City Planners for using an out of date map showing Charlottesville’s neighborhoods. It’s not a good sign that City Planners haven’t gotten the “news” that Little High is NOT a part of the Martha Jefferson neighborhood. This change went through a long time ago. If you have any uncertainty that Little High is indeed an independent neighborhood, see the City’s own website for confirmation:

Broken/Unwanted Appliances Collection this Saturday, 5/2/26

April 26, 2026

Broken/Unwanted Appliances Collection

If you have UNWANTED appliances, please donate them to the Habitat for Humanity store or post them to any of several Facebook groups where you can sell or give away things. If you have broken beyond any reasonable chance of repair appliances, the Rivanna Solid Waste Authority will be glad to take these off your hands for FREE this Saturday, May 2, 8:30am–4:00pm. You are responsible for loading and transporting your broken appliances to the Ivy Solid Waste & Recycling Center which is just a quick 20 minute drive from our neighborhood at 4576 Dick Woods Road, 22903.

If you have just a couple of small items, I can take them for you — first come, first serve while space is available. Write to me at LHNA.cville@gmail.com by Friday, May 1 at 7pm and I’ll make arrangements to pick up your smallish appliances.

If you have to have help loading your things into your vehicle you will need to bring that help with you to the Waste & Recycling Center. Staff are NOT available to help you during this event.

What can you get rid of?

The RSWA will accept refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, kitchen stoves, furnaces, water heaters, air conditioners, dehumidifiers, heat pumps, microwaves, vacuum cleaners, and toasters.

Questions? More information about this event can be found on the RSWA’s website.

  3. Dress for the weather and the task which will involve walking in the woods or along a slope (sturdy shoes, protective clothing and garden/work gloves), and bring water and tools for the job, if you have them (hand clippers, loppers, pruning saws, hatchets) and please label them.
