City Council Public Hearing on Zoning Rewrite Dec. 5

City Council has scheduled a public hearing for the Charlottesville Development Code and Zoning Map on December 5, 2023. It is planned to start at 4pm in the Council Chambers (605 E. Main Street).

City Council to begin deliberations on rezoning plan Oct. 25

At their work session on October 18, the Charlottesville Planning Commission finalized a recommendation to City Council, with several changes proposed for the draft Development Code and Zoning Map. You can learn more about the recommended changes by watching the meeting recording, or by reviewing the materials for the upcoming Council work session on October 25. City Council work sessions do not typically offer the opportunity for public comment but you can attend the meeting in person at City Space on the Downtown Mall or via Zoom (zoom requires advance registration here).

City Council has yet to set a date for a public hearing related to the draft Charlottesville Development Code and Zoning Map. In the meantime, City Council will continue meeting in work sessions to discuss various aspects of the draft Development Code and Zoning Map.

Important Zoning Rewrite Meeting October 18

The next and possibly last meeting of the Charlottesville Planning Commission before the Zoning Rewrite is referred to City Council will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 5:00pm, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 605 E Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Rules for commenting during the Planning Commission meeting:

Public comment will be accepted in writing at the meeting, or by emailing comments to creasym@charlottesville.gov during the meeting.
Relevant materials will be available for viewing on the City’s meeting page, or can be obtained, upon request, from the Department of Neighborhood Development Services, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 610 East Main Street.

Planning Commission Meetings

The Charlottesville Planning Commission has reserved the following dates — if the Commission requires additional deliberation before making a recommendation to City Council.

  • October 4, 2023, at 5pm, at CitySpace, 100 5th St. NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902 (to attend virtually, register here)
  • October 10, 2023, at 5:30pm, in the Council Chambers, 605 E Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902 (Regular Planning Commission meeting). A registration link for attending this meeting virtually is not yet available. It will be posted on this page when it becomes available.

Providing Comments During the Meetings

For October 4

Public comment will be accepted in writing at the meeting, or by emailing comments to creasym@charlottesville.gov during the meeting

For October 10 (if needed)

Public comments will be accepted during the “Matters from the Public” agenda item during the meeting
Relevant materials are available for viewing on the City’s meeting page, or can be obtained, upon request, from the Department of Neighborhood Development Services, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 610 East Main Street.

City Council Meetings

City Council will also be holding work sessions to discuss various aspects of the draft Development Code and Zoning Map.
