The City of Charlottesville has launched a three-tiered grant program to encourage residents to use e-bikes to get around town. The goals of this program are to reduce automobile traffic congestion and reduce the city’s carbon footprint. Launched in 2025, the program has been expanded this year to encourage a broader segment of City residents. ALL adult (18 yrs and up) residents are eligible to apply for a $500 grant toward the purchase of an e-bike and/or certain related equipment from designated vendors. Grants at the $500 level are open to residents regardless of income.
The $1,000 and $1,500 grants are tied to income and/or participation in government assistance programs. You can check your eligibility on the City’s website.
Grant winners at any of the levels are chosen by a lottery drawing held each quarter. For the current quarter, the grant application process runs from April 1 to 30.
The drawing for this quarter will take place on Wednesday, May 6.
