Little High neighborhood backyard concert June 21, 2022In recent years the Little High neighborhood has hosted a series of backyard concerts, story telling for children and adults, garden days, summer picnics, bonfires, food drives, clothing drives, experts on various topics, assorted political candidates, and public officials.

We're always interested in hosting or supporting neighborhood events, so let us know if you have an idea for an event that would be enjoyable for the neighborhood.

Neighborhood Concert August 26

August 23, 2021

Neighborhood concert Thursday, August 26, 7pm

Featuring:

The Herb & Sumner Experience

Herb & Sumner will lead a sing along of popular tunes! Fun for the whole family.

Owen Brennan

Accomplished musician Owen Brennan will sing some songs he likes that were written by other people.

Jon Rice

Jon Rice will have his guitar out at the beginning of the show while people are hopefully not paying attention. He may pull out a few instrumental pieces from the pre-verbal American Primitive Guitar catalog.

Admission

While admission to all neighborhood concerts is FREE and open to everyone, our neighborhood has made an ongoing commitment to helping support the Haven, the downtown multi-resource day shelter. We will pass the hat for cash donations to the Haven during this event. If you prefer, you can donate to the Haven online.

Support for the Haven

Admission to all neighborhood concerts is FREE and open to everyone. Helping Neighbors Clean Up, May 8

May 7, 2021

RosesPlease join us on Saturday, May 8th from 10-12noon to help our neighbors in the Prospect Neighborhood (aka the “Blueridge Commons” Neighborhood) do a general cleanup of their historically under-served neighborhood.  This is an important opportunity to reach out beyond our small neighborhood and answer the call for help in the wider Charlottesville community.

We encourage volunteers to bring their children. All are welcome to help out; the more the merrier!

Bring gloves, grabbers, trash bags, etc. We will also supply some extra trash bags as will the neighborhood. There are several visitor parking spaces near the community center which is located at 750 Prospect Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (here’s a Google map). Email Sumner Brown  or Jon Rice  if you need directions or more information.

Environmental Educator Will Speak on Sustainable Landscaping Practices Tuesday (4/13)

April 11, 2021

Redbud tree on Meriwether StreetEnvironmental Educator Lonnie Murray of the Thomas Jefferson Soil & Water Conservation District will give a brief zoom presentation and and answer questions about “Sustainable Landscaping Practices” this Tuesday (April 13) at 5:30pm*. This talk will focus on the things individual homeowners and gardeners can do to help reduce the contamination of the Rivanna River. Bad things flowing into the Rivanna River ultimately wind up contaminating the Chesapeake Bay. Lonnie will also talk about how individuals can make the transition from the traditional lawn to native plants (reducing or eliminating the need to mow grass!) and help reduce our carbon footprint.

Lonnie Murray is a very knowledgeable and engaging speaker. He gave a great talk to our neighborhood association at our last in-person meeting just before the Coronavirus hit.

Neighborhood residents will be given first priority but all area residents are welcome to join via zoom.

*Click here for access info for this zoom meeting.
