The next neighborhood backyard concert will be held this Wednesday, August 16, at 7pm, at 1011 Little High Street. This is one of the neighborhood’s older houses (near the top of Little High, across from the Charlottesville Day School) but the back patio is a new concert venue with excellent acoustics.
As always, this event is FREE and EVERYONE is welcome! (Note: the space at this location is smaller and more confined so NO DOGS, please).
If you’ve never been, these events are a great opportunity to hang out with and get to know your neighbors. At our last concert, more than 50 people came out to see two excellent performances. The Kitchen(ette) sandwich shop on 9 ½ Street generously donated two $15 gift cards that were given away to two delighted winners in a free raffle. And people attending the concert donated more than $260 for the Haven. Let’s keep the momentum going!
At our upcoming concert, the featured performers are:
- The MMMs play global rhythms, mostly on strings with some vocals. This group is led by Margarita Figueroa, author of the recently published ebook: “Close-Up: My illustrated journey through breast cancer treatment“.
- The second group are first time participants in our backyard concert series, but they are not musical novices. This group spun out of the weekly neighborhood acoustic music jam sessions run by Sudi Durland over the past couple of years. A veteran of the Portland, Oregon acoustic jam scene, Sudi has played a pivotal role in fostering the development of Charlottesville’s acoustic music scene over the past four years or so. Her group features several highly skilled guitar players (one of whom is a very successful professional), several excellent singers, and incorporates acoustic bass, fiddle, flute, Irish whistle, and harmonica. No photo of this amazing group was available at press time.
