Important Zoning Rewrite Meeting October 18

October 17, 2023

The next and possibly last meeting of the Charlottesville Planning Commission before the Zoning Rewrite is referred to City Council will take place on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 5:00pm, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 605 E Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

Rules for commenting during the Planning Commission meeting:

Public comment will be accepted in writing at the meeting, or by emailing comments to creasym@charlottesville.gov during the meeting.
Relevant materials will be available for viewing on the City’s meeting page, or can be obtained, upon request, from the Department of Neighborhood Development Services, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 610 East Main Street.

Upcoming Zoning Rewrite Meetings

Planning Commission Meetings

The Charlottesville Planning Commission has reserved the following dates — if the Commission requires additional deliberation before making a recommendation to City Council.

  • October 4, 2023, at 5pm, at CitySpace, 100 5th St. NE, Charlottesville, VA 22902 (to attend virtually, register here)
  • October 10, 2023, at 5:30pm, in the Council Chambers, 605 E Main Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902 (Regular Planning Commission meeting). A registration link for attending this meeting virtually is not yet available. It will be posted on this page when it becomes available.

Providing Comments During the Meetings

For October 4

Public comment will be accepted in writing at the meeting, or by emailing comments to creasym@charlottesville.gov during the meeting

For October 10 (if needed)

Public comments will be accepted during the “Matters from the Public” agenda item during the meeting
Relevant materials are available for viewing on the City’s meeting page, or can be obtained, upon request, from the Department of Neighborhood Development Services, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 610 East Main Street.

City Council Meetings

City Council will also be holding work sessions to discuss various aspects of the draft Development Code and Zoning Map.

The first work session was on September 27, 2023. Additional work sessions are currently scheduled for the following dates. Please see the website for more information about the meetings.

Early Voting has Begun!

This post is adapted from a press release from the City of Charlottesville dated 9/20/23

In-person early voting in Charlottesville officially began today (September 22, 2023) and will run through Saturday, November 4.

Early Voting will take place in the Office of Voter Registration during regular business hours, 8:30am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday. Hours will be extended until 7:00pm on Thursdays during the Early Voting period. The Voter Registration Office will also be open on two Saturdays, October 28 and November 4, from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The office is located at 120 7th St NE, City Hall Annex, First Floor.

  • Curbside voting will be available for qualified voters, such as those with disabilities and voters who are over 65.
  • Any voter wishes to request a mail ballot may do so by submitting a Vote by Mail Application to the Voter Registration Office by Friday, October 27 at 5:00pm.
  • Registration for the November General Election closes on Monday, October 16.
  • All polling locations will be open from 6am to 7pm on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7.

Please Conserve Water

September 12, 2023

From the City of Charlottesville’s “news flash” on 9/12/23:

The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA), Albemarle County Service Authority, and City of Charlottesville Utilities Department report that they are prepared to meet the community’s public drinking water needs, despite below normal rainfall. However, water conservation is encouraged for public water and private well users as drought-like conditions are occurring throughout central Virginia.
