2026 Summer Concert Series Opens JUNE 8

June 1, 2026

Playing for Fun will be playing in the Little High Neighborhood's first summer concert on June 8, 2026, at 7pm in the backyard of 1011 Little HighOur neighborhood’s world-renowned Summer Backyard Concert series kicks off its 7th year on MONDAY, JUNE 8, at 7pm at 1011 Little High Street.  Headlining this concert is  “Playing for Fun”, a group of seven local musicians playing guitar, mandolin, fiddle, flute, tin whistle, and harmonica. This event is FREE and open to everyone who enjoys good music.

Please note that at all of our backyard concerts and bigger events we pass the hat for the Haven, the multi-resource day shelter and housing resource center in downtown Charlottesville (112 West Market Street). Last summer we raised over $1,000 for the Haven and this year we’re going to try to do even better.

Warning from the City about Illegal Short-term Rentals

May 12, 2026

The City of Charlottesville is “reminding” (a euphemism for warning) residents that Homestay permits are required annually for anyone operating a short-term rental (fewer than 30 days) within residential or residential mixed-use zoning districts (i.e., the bulk of our neighborhood). The City has identified individual properties that do NOT have Homestay permits. City officials made it clear in a presentation last December that they plan to go after violators to enforce compliance. The City has provided the following map to indicate which properties are complying / not complying with current Homestay regulations. The map provided by the City is not easy to read, but it appears that there are several properties in our neighborhood that are not complaint.

All property owners engaged in the short term rental market should make sure they are compliant with City regulations asap.

** And after you submit your response, PLEASE scold City Planners for using an out of date map showing Charlottesville’s neighborhoods. It’s not a good sign that City Planners haven’t gotten the “news” that Little High is NOT a part of the Martha Jefferson neighborhood. This change went through a long time ago. If you have any uncertainty that Little High is indeed an independent neighborhood, see the City’s own website for confirmation:
