Neighborhood Garden Project Needs Donations

July 27, 2022

The neighborhood association is helping our neighbors at the Mews create a few small gardens in various spots around that property. So far these small neighborhood gardens have morning glories, zinnias, irises, cosmos, marigolds, nasturtiums, and sunflowers. Herbs include lavender, lemon verbena, Corsican mint, Greek basil and oregano, sage, rosemary, thyme, western wood sorrel, and Thai basil. There are also two climbing bean plants, tomatoes of 3 varieties, peppers, and  squash and they would like to add blueberry shrubs and fruit trees like apple, fig, etc. Everything is landscaped and decorated creatively — except for the climbing vines which need work!

The Mews gardens have several specific needs at the moment:

  • a picnic table
  • fire pit and grill
  • a wheelbarrow or wagon or cart
  • 5 gallon buckets
  • a rainbarrel
  • an internal composter with a way to turn it over
  • a super small shed for storing tools
  • native fill dirt, sand, pebbles, and bamboo, compost, growing medium for container gardening
  • another vegetable bed that would be planted with seasonal produce
  • and volunteers/donors to create signs and flyers as well as work on beds weeding, watering, etc…

The Mews gardeners would also like shade trees in back to replace several elms lost to disease or because of damage they caused to roofing.

Contact Rita Fravel at ooo.ritaf@gmail.com if you can help or have items to donate.

Zoning Report Comment Period Extended

July 26, 2022

Update: Public comment period extended to September 6, 2022

(The following is adapted from a newsletter from Cville Plans Together that went out on 7/23/22. If you wish to receive emails directly from Cville Plans Together, you can subscribe to their newsletter here: https://mailchi.mp/51691bce24a8/sign-up-for-the-email-list)

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to review the Zoning Diagnostic + Approach Report, the first report of the zoning rewrite. This document identifies issues with the current zoning ordinance and establishes a proposed approach to the zoning rewrite. It can be considered a conceptual plan for our new zoning ordinance, laying out a set of ideas that could be included in order to advance the goals and strategies of the Comprehensive Plan.

On the Cville Plans Together website, you can view the report as well as summary materials (English, Spanish) from the June 27 open house event at Ting Pavilion.

Share Your Feedback on the Zoning Report

The community review and comment period for the report extends through August 2022. September 6, 2022

There are several ways to share your comments and questions:
