The incidents of motorists speeding through out neighborhood have grown significantly lately. Several residents report nearly being hit by speeding motorists recently and one actually was hit and hurt badly. The first step in getting the city to help is to submit a formal petition requesting traffic calming generally and we have already started circulating that and the response has been very positive. We have to get at least 50% of neighborhood residents to sign our petition before city officials will meet with us about traffic calming and this is a high bar because it’s hard to get people at home. Every signature is important, so please sign the petition when it comes around (we will also make it available so people can come and sign the petition at a specific time and location — details TBD). Please support this initiative and help us keep our streets safe for everyone!

Helping Neighbors Clean Up, May 8
Please join us on Saturday, May 8th from 10-12noon to help our neighbors in the Prospect Neighborhood (aka the “Blueridge Commons” Neighborhood) do a general cleanup of their historically under-served neighborhood. This is an important opportunity to reach out beyond our small neighborhood and answer the call for help in the wider Charlottesville community.
We encourage volunteers to bring their children. All are welcome to help out; the more the merrier!
Bring gloves, grabbers, trash bags, etc. We will also supply some extra trash bags as will the neighborhood. There are several visitor parking spaces near the community center which is located at 750 Prospect Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903 (here’s a Google map). Email Sumner Brown or Jon Rice if you need directions or more information.

Worm Composting!
Check out this video from our neighbor Dana S. Worm composting in a smallish indoor bin is a great idea for people who don’t have a large yard or have a problem with animals getting into the compost.
