City Trash Decal Reminder
The following is copied from a City of Charlottesville “news flash” dated 7/24/24:
The City of Charlottesville would like to remind residents who utilize an annual trash decal that the new decal year began July 1st. Residents who use an annual trash decal for weekly trash service, and have not purchased a new 2024-2025 trash decal, are encouraged to purchase a new one as soon as possible to avoid any disruption in trash pickup service. Residents who have purchased a new decal since June 1st and have not received it in the mail should reach out to the City Treasurer’s Office to obtain a replacement.
The City offers a variety depending on can size, including 32, 50, 64, and 96 gallon decals. They can be purchased in person in the lobby of City Hall at 605 E Main Street, by mail using an order form via mail, or online through the City’s miscellaneous payments portal. Information regarding annual trash decals or individual trash stickers, as well as a printable order form, can be found on the City’s Trash, Recycling, and Leaf Collection page or by emailing the City Treasurer’s Office at citytreas@charlottesville.gov.
RWSA Declares Drought Watch
(adapted from a Charlottesville City Press Release 6/25/24)
The Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) has officially declared a drought watch for the Albemarle County and Charlottesville service area. A drought watch is declared to increase public awareness about the climatic conditions and stream flows that indicate there is concern for an impeding drought. The United States Drought Monitoring Report indicates that most of our area is experiencing moderate drought conditions. The Virginia Drought Monitoring Task Force (VDMTF) issued a drought status report from its June 20, 2024 meeting which indicated that our area is in a drought watch due to below normal precipitation with no near-term forecast of precipitation, increased temperatures, and continued declines of surface and groundwater indicators, particularly stream flows.
As of June 25, 2024, our reservoirs are at 98% of usable capacity. The drought watch has been declared to increase awareness regarding drought conditions and to request voluntary reduction in water use. No mandatory water restrictions have been issued at this time. RWSA will continue to monitor conditions as they evolve and will issue immediate notification to the public if a new drought stage is declared.
If you have questions, please contact the RWSA Director of Administration and Communications Betsy Nemeth at bnemeth@rivanna.org
