Play Music on the Porch Day is an international effort involving people from more than 70 countries willing to step outside and play music on August 31, 2024. The idea is that we should all stop, play and / or listen to music, and be a part of something fun. This annual event has been going for at least 10 years. Check out the Play Music on the Porch website for more information. Check out the promotional video below from 2018 .

City Trash Decal Reminder
The following is copied from a City of Charlottesville “news flash” dated 7/24/24:
The City of Charlottesville would like to remind residents who utilize an annual trash decal that the new decal year began July 1st. Residents who use an annual trash decal for weekly trash service, and have not purchased a new 2024-2025 trash decal, are encouraged to purchase a new one as soon as possible to avoid any disruption in trash pickup service. Residents who have purchased a new decal since June 1st and have not received it in the mail should reach out to the City Treasurer’s Office to obtain a replacement.
The City offers a variety depending on can size, including 32, 50, 64, and 96 gallon decals. They can be purchased in person in the lobby of City Hall at 605 E Main Street, by mail using an order form via mail, or online through the City’s miscellaneous payments portal. Information regarding annual trash decals or individual trash stickers, as well as a printable order form, can be found on the City’s Trash, Recycling, and Leaf Collection page or by emailing the City Treasurer’s Office at citytreas@charlottesville.gov.
Anya Movius, Brian Keena Thurs., July 11, 7pm

The Little High Neighborhood Association is hosting a backyard neighborhood concert TOMORROW (Thursday, July 11) at 7pm in the backyard of 1107 East Jefferson Street.
This event is FREE.
EVERYONE in or out of the neighborhood is invited. Passports, birth certificates, photo ID, and major credit cards are NOT required. The turnstiles will be open starting at 6:30pm. The music will start promptly at 7pm. The lights at all our concerts run on solar power — i.e., we have to wrap up when the sun goes down which is why we don’t host jam bands.

More about this week’s performers
Brian Keena

Having grown up in a musical family, Brian Keena plays (or played) a number of instruments, including trumpet, baritone horn, trombone, hand percussion, guitar, drums, keyboards, vocals, kazoo and bass. He also presents a weekly jazz and blues program on our local radio community radio station, WTJU, 91.1FM.
For this event, Brian will most likely play a guitar of some sort, and present covers of some of his favorite tunes from the pop, blues, rock and jazz worlds.
Anya Movius
Anya Movius grew up in this neighborhood and began performing at open mic nights at a very young age. This summer, Anya, a Charlottesville High School graduate who just completed her first year at Harvard univerity, is recording an album and already has several singles out on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, etc. She has done a concert/interview for WTJU and was chosen for Harvard’s prestigious freshman talent show.
Central Water Line Project Update

At yesterday’s Rivanna Water and Sewer Authority (RWSA) meeting, it was announced that the route planned for the City’s Central Waterline Project is being revised (see the above map). As the proposed route shows, the waterline project will now go almost the full length of Little High Street. The project is scheduled to begin sometime in 2025. To date, no effort has been made by the RWSA or City officials to notify the residents who would be most affected by this very late in the day proposed change. The original route planned for the Central Waterline Project evoked significant neighborhood concern two years ago.
